Just a quick update for you all. Friday Aug.1st Southern Tier Pumpkin ale should be arriving in the store. Their Creme Brulee is already sold out and we did not get any.
Can't figure that one out but our rep will be hearing about it. This Saturday's tasting will be Warsteiner and it includes their regular and dunkel as well as their new flavored products: Radler,Lemon Lime,Orange,and Cola. The rest of the month sets up like this:

Aug. 9th - O'Malley's

New Beer Arrivals

Just a quick post to let everyone know that today we received some exciting products in the beer Dept. The first new arrival is from the North Coast Brewing Company and it's their version of a farmhouse saison called Le Merle. It checks in at about 7.3% abv. Next to check in is Unibroue's Quatre Centieme in honor of Quebec City's 400th anniversary. It is a belgian style blond at 7.5% abv. Last but not least is a 4 beer lineup from Brew Dog out of Scotland. First off is the Hard Core double IPA at 9.1% abv. Second is their Punk IPA at 6% abv. Third is Physics Amber at 5% abv and fourth in the group is their Rip Tide Imperial Stout AT 8% abv. Still waiting on Nogne and Bear Republic to arrived in MO. This weeks Heineken tasting is postponed and we will be having O'Malleys in next week to taste their Sun Ryes ale and their other products.

Farewell to an old freind

Hi all,
In this ever changing world we live in today life is full of surprises and challenges. Tad Brewer has left the store to pursue other interests in the beverage industry and we will miss his superior knowledge in craft beer. Good luck Tad!
I will be handling the beer department for now and will continue to update the blog with pertinent information and new arrivals. Today we received a new Trappist beer from the Achel brewery, Achel bruin 8 which boasts a 96 on rate beer and a 3.8 from beer advocate. They also have a blond 8 and a Trappist extra which should be arriving in the next week or so hopefully. They are the sixth of seven total in our store and in the world that are the renowned and can called themselves a "Trappist Brewery". Until 2001 you could only get these beers if you visited the Monastery. In 2001 they began bottling and exporting their brews around the world. Also on the horizon are Bear Republic of California and Nogne from Norway. We continue to have many summer seasonals in stock for your drinking pleasure including the new Coors Light 5 liter mini kegs which we sold out of the first week they were available to us. We have restocked and should have them for the balance of the summer season. I will keep you updated on any other happenings in the beer world in the store and remember to come on out this Saturday from 1-3 to taste some old world farmhouse saisons.

Coney Island and Gouden Carolus

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that we've got a few new beers here since the last post.

First off there are a couple of new Coney Island lagers out now. Aside from the original Coney Island Lager, we now also have the Sword Swallower Steel Hop Lager and the Albino Python White Lager.

The Sword Swallower has plenty of hops in it, ten different varieties in all. Of the ten different hop varieties and the five big malts that make up this beer, it is dry hopped with Cascade, Amarillo, and Crystal hops to give it a little extra bite. Also it checks in at about 6.8% abv.

The Albino Python White Lager is another interesting beer as well. This 6% abv. beer is brewed with spices like a Belgian Wit beer. It is spiced with ginger, orange peel, coriander, and crushed fennel, so like the other beers in the Coney Island line, this beer is not your average lager. The other kinda cool thing about all of these beers is that some of the proceeds from them go to Coney Island USA, which is a non-profit group thats mission is to defend and restore some of the lost arts and culture that go along with Brooklyn's historic Coney Island neighborhood.

Also now in, we have the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer Blauw and the Gouden Carolus Cuvee Van de Keizer Rood. This the 2008 vintage of both of these beers, which are brewed only one day a year, February 24th, the birthday of Charles the Fifth. The Blauw is a big, bold, and strong, 11% abv adaptation of the Gouden Carolus Classic Belgian ale, and really has a lot going on in it to say the least. The Rood is a top fermented 10% abv blond ale that is bottle refermented and offers a great balance of all the diferent ingredients that make up this classic beer.

That's about it for now, I did also want to mention though that we do have a half barrel of Sierra Nevada's Southern Hemisphere Harvest Ale, which would go very nicely in someone's kegerator. More Summer Seasonals

Hey all, just another quick update of some new arrivals here in the beer department at Lukas Liquor.
Fist off, Sierra Nevada's Southern Hemisphere Fresh Hop Harvest Ale is finally here. This beer is made with hops that are harvested in New Zealand, where they are in season this time of year, and then dried and flown back to the U.S. to make this special beer. This beer is only available in 22 ounce bombers and checks in at about 6.7% alcohol.
From Southern Tier we now have their Imperial Cherry Saison. This intriguing brew is brewed with cherries and aged with French oak staves, which give it some overtones of spice that balance well with the sweetness of the cherries. It is about 8% alcohol.
Also in are a couple of different wheat ales from Breckenridge Brewery. The Breckenridge Summer Bright Ale is a returning summer seasonal, which is a light, crisp and refreshing wheat ale in just in time for hot summer days. We also now have Breckenridge's Agave Wheat Ale. This beer is brewed with Salmiana Agave nectar, which compliments the lightness of the wheat ale yet adds a subtle not of flavor from the agave.
Another new arrival is the Shiner 99. This beer is in commemoration of the brewery's 99th anniversary. It is a light and refreshing Munich Style Helles Lager, which is another very easy drinking beer on hot summer nights.
Another beer that we've had in stock for a little bit now that i'd forgotten to mention is the Export IPA from Schlafly. This full-bodied IPA is packed with hops and is about 8% alcohol.
Finally, the last new arrival that we have is Leinenkugel Summer Shandy 12 packs.

Oberon mini kegs

Hey all, just a real brief update this time. Just wanted to let everyone know that Bell's Oberon 5 liter mini kegs are now here and in stock. That's really about the only new product in the store now aside from the Jolly Pumpkin and a couple of the afore mentioned products, but keep on checking the blog because there should be a few other new items that should be popping up here in the near future.

Just a quick update for you guys, Jolly Pumpkin has finally arrived on the shelves here at Lukas. Fist off we recieved the Bam Biere Farmhouse Ale. This bottle conditioned beer is golden and naturally cloudy, and is also dry hopped, creating a great balance of spicy malts, hops and yeast. This beer is brewed like a traditional Belgian saison. The next beer we recieved is the E. S. Bam Hoppy Farmhouse Ale. This bottle conditioned beer is one of their Spring seasonals, and is similar to the Bam Biere, except this beer has a lot more malts and a lot more hops. Finally, from Jolly Pumpkin, we also recieved Calabaza Blanca Artisan White Ale. This white ale is barrel aged and bottle conditioned, and is brewed with spices, including orange peel and coriander, creating a nice tart beer with a refreshing dry finish.
Also, now back in stock just in time for summer trips to the lake are the 12 pack cans of Leinenkugel's Original. In addition to that, we also have a couple of 1/6 th barrel kegs of O'Fallon Wheach and a 16 gallon keg of Bell's Oberon, which would go perfect with any Memorial Day Weekend BBQ's.

Hi all, just a quick update on some new beers and the tasting schedule for June and July.
Fist off, Mendocino Brewing company's summer seasonal has arrived. It's a Belgian White Ale that is unfiltered, crisp, and fresh and very refreshing for hot summer days or nights. Also from Mendocino, we now have their variety 12 pack. It contains three each of their Red Tail Ale, White Hawk IPA, Eye of the Hawk Ale, and the Black Hawk Stout.
Another new arrival is the Rejewvenator, which comes from He'Brew Brewing company. This new brew is intriging and unique in that it's brewed with fig concentrate, which should be interesting. It comes in 22 ounce bottles and checks in at about 7.8% alcohol as well.
Also we wanted to let you know that we do have a few bottles of New Belgium La Folie sour ale left, but they won't last long. Coming this Friday we will also finally be getting in a few beers from Jolly Pumpkin Brewery out of Michigan. I'm not sure yet which ones they will be, but be sure to look for some of the beers from this great brewery then.
As far as the tasting series goes for June and July, anticipate it to line up something like this:

Schneider and Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse and summer tastings

Hello all, my name is Tad Brewer and I'm gonna be handling the duties in the beer department now, as well as the posts on the blogs. Some of you may already know me. I've already been working in the beer department for about the past year now and have done numerous Saturday afternoon tastings as well. I'll do my best to update the blog as frequently as possible and whenever we get in any new products or have any special events. I'll post a tasting schedule within a couple of days that will cover all of our Saturday afternoon tastings for June and July. As far as the tasting this weekend goes, it will be some of the beers from Schlafly, including their summer seasonals.
Also on a side note, I just wanted to let everyone know that we just recently received a limited release of the Schneider and Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse. This beer, for those who don't know or didn't get a chance to try it last year, is a collaboration between Schneider and Brooklyn breweries. It is basically a hopped up version of Schneider Weisse and it is definitely a staff favorite here.
Anyway, that's about it for now, look for another post in a day or so on the upcoming tastings here. I look forward to working for you and getting to know those of you who do not already know me here.

The Arrival of Southern Tier!!

There is a new beer in town. Southern Tier, which is a craft brewery from New York and has quite a reputation for taking small batch brewing very seriously, has just reached the shelves of the Dept. We started with five of their beers all in 22oz bombers and they do look impressive. We have the Big Red, an imperial Red Ale with a lot of hops, the Tripel, done in the Belgian style, the Uber Sun which is an imperial wheat done with a kick of hops, the Hoppe, a strong Pale Ale, and the Un-Earthly, an imperial IPA that boasts a 97 on ratebeer.com. Based on the popularity of IPA's in general right now I expect the Un-Earthly to be flying off the shelves. These beers just arrived today so I haven't had a chance to taste them but I will so ask me what I think if you stop in the store. I will also try to set up a Saturday tasting for these big boys sometime in the next month or so, so keep checking the blog for that. Nothing else is new, but summer seems like it's on its way. Finally!!

So there are a few updates for the Dept. Its been a while since I have updated the blog and in that time we got back in a bunch of the seasonals for summer and several new beers from Left Hand. It seems like I was just posting the addition of Left Hand to our store and now we have three new beers. These include the Polestar Pilsner, the Jacman's Pale Ale (which was in the mix pack that we got in before), and the Deep Cover Brown. Not much else is happening right now. We are still awaiting the arrival of Southern Tier Brewery which should be soon. They have some very interesting beers that are highly rated on the beer websites so we are very curious to find out which ones will becoming available to us. That's all for now. Happy Drinking!!

New Beer and Tasting Tonight!!

There is a new beer that just arrived to our shelves. I was telling you about it and the Collaboration Not Litigation just arrived from Avery. This is a joint venture from Avery Brewery and Russian River Brewing who both had beers by the name of Salvation. So instead of fighting a legal battle over them they decided to combine them and come out with the Collaboration. This should be quite a product.

Also don't forget the Left Hand introduction tonight. 5-7pm!!!!

New Brewery, new additions and returning favorites!!

Hello from the Lukas beer Dept. Lots of new arrivals this week including the arrival of Left Hand Brewery to the state of Missouri for the first time. We are quite happy about this as it is another Colorado brewery that has finally come to Missouri. Left Hand has been making beers since 1994 and has developed a reputation for creating different styles not produced by every craft brewery on the market. Along these lines are the Juju Ginger, a light golden ale with a touch of ginger, and the Milk Stout, a creamy stout with lactose added to mellow the roasted malts. We got these two in six packs as well as the Juju Ginger in 220z bombers. The other two we recieved from them are the Haystack Wheat in six packs and the Sawtooth Ale, an amber ESB that is in both six packs and bombers.

The other new arrivals in the Dept are additions to the Avery lineup. We added their 14er ESB and Red Point Amber ale in addition to the Maharaja Imperial IPA, another great IPA to add to our Dept boasting a 98 on ratebeer.com. This is one we are quite excited about. Also I have word that we will be getting the Collaboration not Litigation Ale soon, which is a combination of Belgian Style Ale made by the brewers at Avery and Russian River Brewing Company. This is definitely an interesting combination and we are looking forward to getting it. Not sure when just yet.

I just wanted to update everyone on what has been happening in the Dept. We have gotten in a couple new products including the Unibroue 17th anniversary beer and the Gouden Carolus Easter beer. I haven't had the chance to try either of these yet but I'm looking forward to it especially the Unibroue 17 because they always do something fun for their anniversary brews. Also the beer tasting on Saturday March 1 will be featuring the Flying Dog Brewery and will include the two from the Canis Major series, the Gonzo Imperial Porter and the Double Dog Double Pale Ale. These are fantastic beers so come in from 1-3 and try them if you haven't already. As far as a new tasting schedule for the rest of March and into April, we are working dilligently and should have something posted sometime today. Fingers Crossed. Nothing Else new, so Happy Drinking!!

NEW PRODUCTS AND SUCH!!

There are some new products that we have gotten into the Dept and the triumphant return of Sierra Nevada Bigfoot. You might have already picked up this years Bigfoot but if you haven't you can get it here. New products include a couple of French beers. One is a Biere de Garde called St. Landelin La Divine. The other is a Belgian-style White Beer from France called Amadeus. I'm sure that Mozart would be quite proud. Then there is another Biere de Garde called Gayant La Goudale. We also have a new beer from Kasteel, a cherry fruit beer that goes by the name Rouge. Also there is an interesting beer that we haven't had before from Shiner, called Black Lager that also goes by the number 97. I have heard good things about this one but I haven't tried any of these new beers, so we'll see. There isn't too much else going on so I will let you know when something arises. Happy Drinking!!

Hope everyone had a nice Super Bowl weekend. And those of you who didn't get their hands on some Hopslam, better luck next year. Even though this is a very slow time of year in the beer world, we have brought in a few new beers and got in some of the spring seasonals. We have in several new Flying Dog beers that are probably not on the same level as their four-pack selections but I haven't tried them yet. I am very interested in trying the Ft. Collins Double Chocolate Stout. I have a bottle of that in my cooler at home but I haven't broken it open.

Hopslammin!!!...It is among us!!!!

I'm not sure if I need a whole post for this news. Bell's Hopslam is here. It was earlier than we thought and though we got more than we thought we will still be limiting customers to just a few each. The demand is just too high for this product. Get it while you can.

One other thing, we just got in the Leinenkugel Big Butt Doppelbock today, which I don't think we had last year, so its new to the store.

We are breaking open a few 5l kegs for tomorrow's tasting, including Bell's Two Hearted Ale. Perfect for the upcoming Super Bowl parties. See you tomorrow 1-3pm!!!

Avery......Finally!!!...and other tidbits

The long-awaited arrival of Avery Brewery to the state of Missouri is finally complete. We recieved six of their beers this week and will also be getting their seasonals and possibly a few new ones in months to come. This brewery has a nice reputation on many of the beer websites so it is sure to be a nice addition to the Dept. From Avery we recieved the IPA, a nice American version of the English classic. Hoppy and well-balanced. We also got in their White Rascal, a Belgian-style white ale and Ellie's Brown Ale, a nutty brown. These are the beers that come in six packs and there are three that come in 22oz bombers as well. These include the Hog Heaven, a barley-wine style ale that boasts a 96 rating on Ratebeer, one of their highest rated beers and one that I have tasted and thoroughly enjoyed in the past. Also the Reverand, a Belgian-style quadrupel and Salvation, a Belgian-style strong ale.

We also finally recieved the two four-packs in the Canis Series from Flying Dog. I'm usually not too impressed by this brewery to be honest but I have heard that these are a whole new level for them. I will have to check them out and see whether they live up to the advance billing. They include the Double Dog Pale Ale, which is a double pale ale that has a 97 rating on Ratebeer. That certainly has my attention. But even more impressive is the 98 rating that the Gonzo Imperial Porter gets. This beer is a tribute to Hunter S. Thompson, a man who appreciated good beer as much as anyone. As you can see, these are not in the same ballpark as the 18 rating that the Tire Bite Golden Ale is sporting.

A few other things. We got back in Tennants Scottish Lager which had been out of the market for a few months, but the Budweiser distributer who picked it up got a very small amount. Also tomorrow we will be getting a new New Belgium mix 12 pack that includes a beer that is not available in six packs. So look for these things and as always, Happy Drinking!!

Just wanted to continue to update the happenings in the Dept. We have two new beers, the return of a couple seasonals and further Hopslam news. It looks like we might be getting more than we first thought, which would be a huge relief because of the demand. We may not have to limit customers to one six pack but we're not sure just yet. I will update this when I get more news but it should be around the second week of February when we get it back in the store. We also just got in the Sam Adams Irish Red which was the customers' choice a few months back. This now comes in six packs. We also just got in the new Spring seasonal from Blue Moon which is called Rising Moon. This is an amber wheat with a hint of lime. Interesting.... I will continue to update the blog as things arise, hope all is well. Happy drinking.

Just a little update from the Dept.

Hope everyone had a good round of holidays this year. It was crazy as usual in the Dept and then we had inventory this past weekend so the influx of new products has been very limited. We did recently get in the O"Malley's Pack-o-Craic which is a mixed six pack of three different beers that O'Malley's from Weston, MO has never put into stores before. This includes their Festive Ale, and Irish Style Special Bitter and what they call their Emerald Lager. These are very different than the Cream Ale that we have had for a while. Sean will be out from the brewery February 2 to do a tasting on these three. I am also working on a complete Saturday tasting schedule for the months of January and February which I will be posting shortly. We continue to await the arrival of both Avery and Left Hand Breweries from Colorado which should both be here by the end of February. New Beers from Bells, new Harvest ale

We have a few new products from Bell's that we are quite excited about. We hae been waiting a while on the Sparkling Ale and we did finally get it in yesterday. The other thing that is very cool is the Two Hearted Ale in 5 liter kegs. I'm sure everyone got their share of the Oberon kegs the last two summers but we have never had the Two Hearted Ale in the mini keg. I am looking forward to getting at least one of these myself. If you have never had Two Hearted on tap then this is the way to try it. We no longer get the bigger kegs here in the state of Missouri. One other thing that I am excited about is a new Harvest Ale from JW Lees. We just got in the 2000 vintage of the Harvest which we have also never had. We have carried the '01 and '98 for a while. Nothing else new is going on. We have been very busy and know that we will be crazy this weekend and next. I will continue to let you know of anything new in the dept. Boulevard Smokestack is In!!!! La Folie has also Arrived!!

For those who have not already been in to pick up the new Boulevard Beers, we did recieve them in the store yesterday. I have heard word that some of the stores around town have run out, but that will not be a problem here at Lukas. We have plentiful stock of all four beers: Saison, Double IPA, Tripel, and Quad.

We also got in the New Belgium La Folie today. This is the once a year sour brown that is always so popular so you better stock up while we still have it.

The other seasonals have arrived also. We got in the Sierra Nevada Celebration and the O'Dell's Isolation at the end of last week.

One piece of not so good news, there has been a delay in the process of bringing Avery Brewery into the state of Missouri so we will not have them in time for the Saturday tasting next week. I am still working on what will replace it as well as a complete tasting schedule for the rest of the year. Remember that Thanksgiving is early this year so this coming weekend is the last one before the holiday. Hope all is well, Happy Drinking!!

Boulevard Smokestack Monday!!!

We have word on the long-awaited Boulevard Smokestack Series. We will have the Saison, the Long Strange Tripel, the Sixth Glass Quadrupel, and the Double Wide India Pale Ale in our store Monday. I had a chance to taste these beers at the brewery a couple of weeks ago, and this should usher in a whole new era of beer in Kansas City.

We also recieved the Budweiser Brew Master which this year includes two beer glasses, an improvement over just the single bottle that has come out the last few years.

We also just got the Black Dog Winter Cheer from Spanish Peaks Brewery, which is a new seasonal for us, and I have not tried it yet...Yet. And we received a few cases of the O'Dell's Extra Special Red, but we have a limited amount so I know it will go quite fast.

More New Beers, October Beer Event and more!!

Hey people,

Hope it was a good weekend for all. We had a really nice turn out for the Schlafly tasting on Saturday so I hope everyone enjoyed it. There are several things going on. First we have just gotten in a new micro-brew from Colorado, Ft. Collins Brewery. They have an interesting line of beers that I haven't tried yet but I will within the next few days. They have six beers that we are carrying off the bat: Their best seller is what the website calls "the most unique beer ever produced." Quite a claim indeed. But I haven't seen a pomegranate wheat beer before either so maybe they have something there. They also have an IPA, a schwarzbier, a chocolate stout, a smoke lager and a hopped up red ale. Not exactly a common grouping from a micro-brew. People have already bought several of the varieties and I am curious to get some word on what everyone thinks.

In the wake of the Wetten Import Tasting last week and the success contained therein, I am happy to announce a similar event for the month of October. On Tuesday, October 23rd, Jim Rhode from D and V International Imports will be our guest from 5 to 7pm. He will be tasting and presenting several of the fine Belgian and French beers his company imports. The list will include:

There have been a few new products that have come to the Left Side of the Store, so I wanted to keep you guys updated. We got in the Sam Adams Imperial Pilsner, which they claim is one of the hoppiest beers made. Not sure if it lives up to that billing, but it is proof that a pilsner can be more than just a light lager. We also just got in the Sierra Nevada Anniversary Ale, which is an American-style IPA made from the same hops that they put in their classic Pale Ale. It just arrived today and I haven't had a chance to try it yet, but being the hophead I am, you can bet it won't be too long, now. We have also recieved the first couple of beer gift packs that you will see a lot of as the holidays get a little closer. Chimay has released a sampler pack that includes all three varieties and a nice Belgian goblet. We also just got the Christoffel mix pack that includes double hopped and double malted ales with a glass. These are just the first two of many we will be getting. Hope everyone enjoyed the tasting last night. From what I heard, it was fantastic, I was not able to attend myself. Keep checking the blog because we are planning another event for October 23rd. More Belgian beers from a different importer. Very exciting. More news soon.

Hey people,

As I said, it has been a good couple weeks for new beers and we haven't stopped just yet. We recieved in a new tripel from Belgium that we are quite excited about. Welcome the Tripel Karmeliet. This beer, which is rated at 98 on ratebeer.com, uses wheat, oats and barley in the unique recipe that was created over 300 years ago at the Carmelite monastery in Dendermonde. It should be a nice addition for the Dept.

.......And They Just Keep Coming

Hey people,

There has been an influx of new product this week and last. We have added 9 new beers and been able to get back in a few that we were out of stock of. It has been busy around the Dept. lately. So as far as the new items go..... First we received a special shipment of the Coney Island Lager from Hebrew, we weren't sure about whether we were going to be able to get any of it but alas. It's a hopped up lager and from what I have heard(I haven't tried it yet myself) it is pretty unique. We also expanded our line of Great Divide beers from Colorado as we have added the Hades Belgian-Style Ale in 22oz bombers and the Samurai Rice Ale in six packs. Very different for a brewery that excells in more English style varieties. These two are departures from that mentality.

From Belgian we have received in the La Grande Blanche from the Proef Brewery. It is a belgian white that doesn't really taste like a belgian white. It is kind of in it's own category. So is Piraat 10.5% another new one from Belgium. It is a strong golden ale that has a strong following from those who have spent time in Belgium, including one of our own employees.

Finally we just got in a new group from the brewers of La Trappe. We now have the Urthel Hop-It a hop crazy Belgian Ale that should be good for any of our La Chouffe fans out there. We also got the Urthel Samaranth a Belgian strong ale at 11.5% ABV and sporting a 90 rating on ratebeer.com and the Urthel Bock which is a American exclusive dubbel that only recently became available outside the usual winter season.

This weekend we will be tasting a whole group of porters, some English, some American, which should be perfect for the cooling down weather(I think it is supposed to be under 95, perfect for a thick dark heavy beer)

Keep checking back, as you can see we are pushing our sales reps pretty hard to bring us every beer they can get their hands on so there will be new items continuing to fill our shelfs. We may just need some more space. As always, Happy Drinking.

New Beer Added

Hey people,

We've been doing some resets in the Beer Dept, making room for one of our new items. We just received in the Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen Weisse. The following is from the brewery: "This unique beer is the result of the long friendship of Schneider brewmaster Hans-Peter Drexler and Brooklyn brewmaster Garrett Oliver. The two brewmasters feel that Schneider-Brooklyner Hopfen-Weisse represents the quality, tradition and terroir of the Bavarian Hallertauer hop region paired with the innovation and creative energy for which Brooklyn is famous." It also has a 97 from Ratebeer, so it should be quite an addition. It is a hefeweizen that uses wheat and pale malts and is dry-hopped with American hops.

Hope everyone is surviving the heat. We will be doing IPA's over 7% ABV this Saturday for the Big IPA's tasting. I know there will be a couple of the double IPA's that we carry and possibly a little surprise.

We have a few new beers in the Dept. A couple from Belgium and the return of Tilburg's Dutch Brown Ale which we haven't had since the end of last year. It is just the nature of the beer world that some things will disappear for weeks, even months and then pop up again for who knows how long. The new arrivals from Belgium are coming in waves apparently. We received in the Heylissem Triple Blonde Sur Lie, which I was just reading is also known in some places as the Abbaye dAulne Triple Blonde Sur Lie. This is a tamer triple, with a smooth flavor and is remakably easy drinking for a beer at 9% ABV. From what I can tell, this brewery was a staple of monastic brewing in through the Middle Ages up until the brewery was destroyed by a fire in 1752. By 1850, it had disappeared completely. In 1950 a few of the beers began being brewed by larger Belgian breweries and in 1998, Brasserie Val de Sambre was reopened at the site of its predecessor. Tours today allow you to see what is left of the original structure.

We will also be getting in the Double and Brown Ale in the Heylissem line but I'm not sure when they will arrive. As I said, they come to us in waves.

We have also recieved Wittekerke Belgian Wheat and Raspberry White Ales. This beer is named after a fictitious Flemish town as many of the towns in Northern France, Southern Belgium have a name ending in "kerke"(church). The Belgian Wheat is traditional style with a nice smooth taste, perfect for the hot weather we have been having. The Raspberry is sweet and tart with enough fruit to make this a borderline beer (a beer that is barely still a beer). It should be interesting to see what everyone thinks of these two beers. They come in cans, which is a little unusual for items from Belgium, but it should be convenient for all kinds of summer activities.

Don't Forget, this Saturday we will be tasting some of the better German Doppelbocks. The tasting will include the Paulaner Salvator, Aventinus, Spaten Optimator and Tucher Bajuvator. It will be a good one so don't miss it. Saturday 1-3pm

New from Belgium

Hope all is well. Things are quite busy in the Beer Dept. with the 4th coming tomorrow. Just wanted to let you guys know aobut a new beer that arrived today. We received the Pauwel Kwak in 75oml's. I have heard good things about this amber ale and it has a nice rating on the beer websites. The only problem is that we didn't get any Kwak glasses and I hear one of the big things about this beer is that they serve it in a test tube glass that Coachmen used to hang from their Mail Coaches while they were at the "De Hoorn Inn" in Dendermonde around Napoleon's time. The brewer and innkeeper's name was Pauwel Kwak and the beer still bears his name.

I'm a history guy so don't be surprised when you see these kinds of stories on here in the future. I just think they are fun.

Oh, I will be posting about this Saturday's beer tasting a little later in the week and I should have a more extended summer schedule soon.

New Arrival from England

I am happy to introduce to the Kansas City market two brand new English beers. We just received in Meantime English IPA and London Porter. I am personally very happy to get a new IPA from the place where it all started. Usually English IPA's are a little tamer than what many of the American micro-brews have been creating over the last few years and this one is no different. But the balance that so many of the breweries, like Samuel Smith and St. Peter's, have mastered makes the drinking experience fantastic. Meantime has a nice rating on Beer Advocate and is growing fast amidst well-established competitors. The IPA especially is a great addition to our growing IPA selection. Welcome them to the area, mates.

Don't forget about the Unibroue tasting Tommorow, Wednesday, June 27th from 5-7pm in the Beer Dept. Karl Braun from Unibroue will mingling and talking beer from 5-7pm!!!!

It's friday, its not raining, its not snowing....spring is finally here?!?!?

In the beer release world its already summer as the arrival of Bell's Oberon brings many smiles. "Oberon is the color and scent of a summer afternoon", ya know....

We are expecting Schlafly Raz Hefe and Summer Kolsch later today.

Sleeman dropped a new one down to us this week, Honey Brown Lager. Do they have seasonal beers in Canada? Two maybe?A winter seasonal and a not winter seasonal?

For the first time we have Abbaye des Rocs Triple Impériale 750ml's. Previously we were only able to get 11oz'ers. Great timing on these, going to be sampling it tommorow. That's right, once again flipping the script on a Saturday tasting. If your keeping score at home, Belgian Blondes was originally scheduled. No More. Staying in Belgium though....I think you will appreciate the switch.

The most interesting new thing to come through the door this week comes from Italy. We continue to get some very unique brews from a country that doesn't make ya think of beer. Pricey suckers, but progressive and original ideas. The newcomer is QUARTA RUNA, from Birrificio Montegioco. Ale brewed with peaches. One the more interesting labels I have seen in awhile, this comes from the same brewery as Draco which we had for a short time a few months ago. The Draco was brewed with Blueberries. Hope to get some more of that in real soon. We could only get our hands on 6 bottles of the Peach varietal.

Kinda of slow on news as we near spring.

Great Divide will be coming to the Missouri side soon enough, hope to see it by the end of this month. Of course a tasting will follow. Great brews many of you already might know from the KS side.

We have the new spring/summer offering from the Budweiser, a spiced wit beer called SPRING HEAT.

Mendocino Brewing Company keeps sending us more of thier brews, the latest is Black Eye. A awesome priced 22oz bomber that brings together the Eye of the Hawk Ale and Black Hawk Stout. Sort of a hoppy stout / black and tan style. We will be popping some open tommorow, MENDOCINO TASTING 1-3PM!!!

Starting today we also are offering a new idea in the mix-n-match 6 pack. "The Weekender" is a higher end version. It will change often, as will the price (depending on the 6 at the time). There are no substitutions, but very open to suggestions for future editions.

The new spring seasonal from New Belgium has arrived, Springboard.

description on package: Deftly, this spring brewed venture lands on its feet. Springboard combines oats, ancient Chinese herbs and Mt. Hood hops to maintain a balanced equilibrium for such an exhilirating ale. This cloudy blonde has a spirited threshold, and a creamy body, followed by a refreshingly dry finish.

Tona Cerveza (nicaragua)has also arrived. It looks like Latin America is gonna be a area we will be getting several brews from in the near future.

We recieved a very nice shipment yesterday from Arcadia Brewing. A few of thier BIG BEER series, the winter Nut Brown, bombers of the Shipwreck Porter and one of the better sampler packs I have seen in awhile. The sampler 12 pack comes with thier IPA, Amber, Nut Brown and Starboard Stout. As for the Big Beers....HOPMOUTH DOUBLE IPA, CEREAL KILLER BARLEY WINE, and BIG DICK's OLDE ALE.

To go along with the Matilda, we now have Demolition as well from the Goose Island Reserve Series. I highly suggest checking these out, AMAZING. I am still fighting for the Imperial IPA and Bourbon County Stout.

Schlafly Imperial Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout has arrived. Really amazing, enjoy now or cellar it...or just buy two. Can't say enough about this one or any of the current Schlafly seasonals.

The long awaited Old Stock Ale from North Coast has finally made it, this release is limited to 1200 cases nationwide.

And last but not least we have 5 Liter mini kegs of Monchshof Weihnachts Bier. Great looking package, would make for an outstanding xmas present.
